In September 2009, the InnerCHANGE teams in San Francisco and San Dimas began to feel God putting the city of Oakland on their heart. After a year of prayer and discernment, they felt God calling them to start a new team there.
Today the InnerCHANGE Oakland team is just getting their feet on the ground. They are exploring Oakland, connecting with existing ministries, visiting churches, talking with and listening to people in the community, getting to know their neighbors, and asking the Holy Spirit to lead them in this new adventure.
What they do know is that their team members come with a heart for youth who have been caught up in gangs and drug dealing, and are looking at continuing to connect with youth through Juvenile Hall. They also have a heart for issues of immigration, as well as unity and collaboration between Catholics and Evangelicals. The diversity of the neighborhood they are living in has challenged them to also begin to dream and pray that God would raise up local leaders and missionaries from every tribe, tongue, and nation in Oakland.
They envision a team that is committed to Jesus and the poor, and deeply rooted in the city of Oakland.
