Back during the spring I had trained Melanie Avila on how to use Peachtree Accounting Software. The Guatemala team bought a copy of the software in the US and took it back to use locally. Later in the summer, I received an email newsletter from Peachtree saying they were having a summer contest that involved taking pictures in an exciting, exotic place. This happened to be the year of the CRM Worldwide Conference in Malaysia - exotic to most and I was going to visit Cambodia before hand - even more exotic, so I thought I'd give it a shot. And I won - BUT not in how we had expected . . .
Out of 100's of photos, I had 4 in the top 20. I sent out an email to everyone I knew who had an account with Facebook, as that was how the voting was done. We all voted, many several times and I didn't even get 5th place (winners in 1st to 5th place all won in their prize a free copy of Peachtree accounting that I was hoping to win for the South Africa team). I was a little surprised - just thinking the odds. But oh well....
Then I got a call from a friend of mine here in GA, she asked if I had won and I said no and she said - well I'd like to buy the software for the South Africa team - WOW! Ok...and can I just say, she's never offered to support me personally in all the years I've known her (she is only 21 and is working lots of overtime at her factory at the moment) so this was really HUGE!
We made plans to go to Office Depot to buy the software and the weekend before we were going to get it, Office Depot came out with their weekly ad and had mail-in rebates that actually made the software FREE! So we went together and got our "FREE" copy of the software for South Africa, it is registered and the rebate is in the mail.
Interesting - had it not been for the contest, my friend wouldn't have known about the need and wouldn't have had the chance to get personally involved (using Facebook). From that involvement, she was willing to give even more to bring about our hoped for reality...and God has drawn us closer together relationally through this as well...
God may not always provide as we expect, but He does always provide!
